Development at RAA

We invest in our people

At RAA, our people are our strength. That's why we engaged leaders in People and Culture at WestJet to inform the creation of our development and culture training program. Continue reading below to learn more about the content of our program!

Our development and culture training has three primary areas of focus:

  • DISC Assessments

  • Feedback

  • Radical Candor

DISC Assessments

Developed by psychologist Dr. William Moulton Marston, DISC assessments examine how an individual ranks in the four areas of behavior – Dominance, Influence, Steadiness and Conscientiousness.* We use the assessment tool offered by Assessments 24x7 to inform our discussions and achieve the following outcomes:

  • Participants benefit from increased self-awareness considering their own communication and working styles, how they interact with and may be perceived by others, and their own blind spots;

  • Participants develop increased understanding of, and empathy for, the perspectives and approaches of others;

  • Participants learn how they can better work and communicate with others including managing conflict that can arise from different styles; and

  • Participants develop a common language to assist in the prevention of conflict, improvement of communication, and strengthening our team.

Our members continually cite DISC as the most valuable portion of our training program. At RAA, our DISC assessment provider is Assessments 24x7, a leader in the assessments industry for over 20 years. Their assessment provides our members with insights into their DISC styles and what they mean, along with detailed charts and explanations so they can get the most out of the session.**

Feedback

At RAA, we operate on the fundamental belief that feedback is a gift - it grants the ability for you to see yourself through someone else's eyes. In this section of our program, our members challenge their current assumptions about and understanding of feedback. We build the skills and provide tools for our members to be able to give and receive feedback in a way that is helpful, effective, and constructive.

We use the conversation model adapted from WestJet's own leadership training program to give our members a framework for having feedback conversations, whether positive or corrective in nature. We also teach other techniques for having these conversations, arming our members with the ability to have effective feedback conversations - a skill that is at a premium in today's market.

Radical Candor

Using the framework developed by Kim Scott of Candor inc., we encourage our members to 'say what they think' and be candid in their conversations. Radical Candor is essentially just that, say what you think! Our members learn effective communication strategies in order to effectively communicate with others, focusing on caring personally and challenging directly. This section of our training program compliments the feedback section and gives our members another tool for having tough conversations.
