Alika Turton is a sophomore studying Political Science at The University at Buffalo from Queens, NY. She has been into various student public offices since she was in middle school, from being Vice President of her class from middle school to early high school where she became Student Body President. In high school her love of politics and public policy hit an all time high when she received the opportunity to go to Albany to speak to State Politicians on providing more aid to Advanced Placement programs and now this year when she went back with the SUNY Student Assembly to advocate for Increasing TAP Eligibility, Increasing the TAP Minimum Award, Increasing TAP and Excelsior Scholarship Funding, Increasing Funding for On-Campus Mental Health Services and Establishing a Co-Pay Grant for Students. Alika has held various positions at UB and in national and regional collegiate organizations such as Residence Hall Association (RHA) Richmond Hall Council President, North East Affiliate for College and University Residence Halls Associate Director for National Residence Hall Honorary, UB EOP Ambassador and UB SA club, UNICEF Unite Creative Director.
As a first gen college student, Alika knows well about the struggle of adapting to college and finding your footing in a world where everything goes fast and it's easy to get lost in the new experiences and environment. Thankfully with Alika's prior leadership experiences she has been able to craft a thought out platform for helping her fellow UB students with the adjustment to being in University and feeling like they have the resources for them to succeed in and out of the classroom.
