About Shimul

Shimul Melwani

Shimul Melwani is an Associate Professor of Organizational Behavior at the University of North Carolina’s Kenan-Flagler Business School. At Kenan-Flagler, she is the faculty director of Spark, the onboarding program for the undergraduate business program and is the PhD coordinator in the Organizational Behavior area.

She conducts research on creativity, diversity and interpersonal relationships at work and has been published in top management and psychology journals such as the Academy of Management Journal, and Psychological Science; her work has also been covered by Forbes, Harvard Business Review, Newsweek, New Yorker and on Good Morning America to name a few.

Currently she teaches courses on leadership and management to undergraduate and graduate students. Shimul was recognized as one Poets and Quants Top 50 Undergraduate Business Professors in 2018 and has also won teaching awards at Kenan-Flagler, UNC, the Wharton School and Cornell University.

She earned her doctorate in management from the Wharton School, a Masters in Industrial and Labor Relations from Cornell University and has a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Mumbai.
