The UBD School of Business and Economics (UBDSBE) is committed To provide quality education and nurture innovative and caring leaders to contribute to the community. It's mission is build on the embodiment of creativity, integrity, compassion, teamwork and collaboration core values.
Aside from classroom-based learning and research, the School also encourages students to learn beyond the campus, through practicum activities and the discovery year programme. Such programmes provide the opportunity for students to enhance their knowledge and skills through incubation projects, community outreach projects, internship at established organisations or study abroad programmes at international partner universities.
Since its establishment, the Faculty takes pride in the accomplishment of its graduates, both local and international, as they attain managerial positions in government and private organisations, as well as those who thrive as successful entrepreneurs.
In line with Universiti Brunei Darussalam's GenNEXT programme on experiential learning, students must engage in experiential learning beyond the classroom environment and undergo the Discovery Year (DY) programme.
During DY, students have the opportunity to gain first-hand experience interacting with real-world environments and communities. Students will be able to be part of a study abroad programmes with the University's partner institutions, take on an internship opportunity with relevant organisations, participate in community outreach projects, or create a business startup.
The DY initiative aims to develop students' personally, academically and professionally, by providing opportunities to engage with local and international communities and prolonged exposure to the professional workplace and business world.
Community Service Programme (COP), module code DC-3001, is one of the education initiatives of the Discovery Year. In line with UBDSBE's commitment to provide quality education and nurture innovative and caring leaders to contribute back to the community, COP is an excellent platform for students to engage the society - a key component for a sustainable business ecosystem.
The initiative emphasizes the importance of collective moral and social responsibility, conducted locally or abroad, in areas such as education, health, housing, entrepreneurship, job creation, and social issues in the public or private sector. Students performing this program are encouraged to work in teams and is under the supervision of the COP Coordinator and guidance from assigned host agencies.
Open to for third year students, the main objectives of the program are to empower students to become more socially responsible and self-reliant, to develop the habit of volunteerism, and to experience new cultures and fortifies the University's ties and recognition internationally.
Projects under this programme would potentially create a positive , promising, and sustainable impacts towards the betterment of communities and future generations. Besides, this programme helps to enhance students’ soft skills, improve their interpersonal and communication skills, stimulate leadership and teamwork qualities, expose to proper planning, managing conflict and negotiation skills.
