Although cloud-based digital tools, such as Microsoft Office 365, offer convenience for many educators and can be seen as a reliable investment for the Foundation, its hidden ethical and environmental costs must be considered. Without research and inquiry into education’s role in cloud-based emissions, school districts, as well as NGOs, risk further promoting unsustainable digital practices under the facade of progressivism and greenwashing.
Thus, investors, the Foundation, should only continue investing in Microsoft, once they completely commit to sustainable, ethical, and transparent cloud infrastructure and practices.
