Problems We See in the Current After-School Tutoring Market in China

During the pandemic, more than 70 per cent of after-school tutoring businesses in China said they experienced severe cash flow shortages due to a sharp drop in student enrollment, while more than 60 per cent of business executives in the sector said they expect the negative impacts of the outbreak to continue to the end of the year.

LIMITED OPTIONS FOR SCHOOLS

The negative impact of the pandemic pushed parents to sought out online after-school tutoring (AST) options for their children. Schools are forced to introduce online classes in order to stay competitve.

UNHAPPY PARENTS

The unsatisfactory quality of teaching and curriculum with current online education service providers has left parents without good solutions.

POOR CURRICULUM DESIGN

Cost is too high for traditional offline schools to create their own online courses, so they purchase make-shift online classes that don't relate to their offline curriculum.

What are parents looking for?

A third of China’s parents who used to be against online learning are now open to new possibilities, according to Oliver Wyman’s survey of 30 large and mid-sized national and regional online educational training providers. Parents want the convenience of online education for their child. But they also want the benefit that immersive experience and interactivity traditional offline after-school tutoring schools provide.

Introducing...

Adventure ABC

Featuring the OMO model

This English learning APP is designed for children 4-15 years old, and it's made for offline schools to adopt the OMO learning method. Content is course-oriented and children can move through the levels according to their current English ability.

Online-Merge-Offline (OMO) is about bridging the gap between online and offline platforms to allow better utilization and cost efficiency without much sacrifice of user experiences. Many Chinese after-school tutoring centers are trying to adopt this model in order to meet the increasing parent demands in online learning.

Due to COVID-19, China’s shift to online learning was hurried and bumpy. According to a study by Tencent and Xinhuanet, about 71 % of teachers say their biggest challenge has been how to gauge the effectiveness of their teaching. Almost 40% of China’s teachers spent at least six hours a day preparing for their next day’s lessons.
