To Our Professionals Cohort:
We would like to extend our deepest gratitude to each of you for volunteering your time, energy, and passion to be a part the UBB & US Career Insights Program. Your willingness to share your knowledge and experiences with our students is invaluable and truly appreciated.
As experienced professionals, you bring a wealth of expertise and insight that will undoubtedly have a profound impact on the lives and careers of our students. Your guidance will not only help them navigate their academic and professional journeys but also inspire them to reach their full potential.
This program would not be possible without your commitment and dedication. You are playing a crucial role in shaping the future leaders of your industries, and for that, we are immensely grateful. Your guidance will provide our students with the practical skills, confidence, and network they need to succeed in their chosen fields.
We are honored to have you as part of the first cohort on the UBB & US Career Insights Program and are excited to see the positive influence you will have on our students. Your generosity and support are setting a remarkable example and contributing to the success of this inaugural advisory program.
Thank you once again for your invaluable contribution. We look forward to witnessing the lasting impact of your commitment and investment.
Professional Toolkit
The student is expected to take the initiative and drive the mentoring relationship. The student must be proactive in the process so you both get value from participating in the program.
Professionals are responsible to:
Make time to meet with the student
The student is responsible for driving the relationship and will schedule the meetings.
Actively Listen
Answer Questions
Answer questions the student asks. You are not required to be an expert on everything. Provide your student with other resources, when you need to.
Establish an Open and Trusting Relationship
To build trust in this relationship, maintain confidentiality and show respect for the student’ experience. When giving feedback to improve performance, give it in a way that’s helpful and sensitive. Give feedback to affirm good behaviors, often.
Respect Confidentiality
Maintain and respect privacy, honesty, and integrity.
Provide Guidance on Training and Development
Part of guiding a student's development is to recommend books or articles, training, and other developmental activities that are relevant to the person’s goals. When making a recommendation, explain what the student can gain from learning a new skill. When a student completes a developmental activity, have a discussion to evaluate what was learned and how to apply it.
Make Suggestions
Providing counsel is one way to show support. You can make specific suggestions about how to complete a task or who to contact as a resource.
Share Experience, Knowledge, and Insights
Share your wisdom as well as your past mistakes. A student can learn from your past experiences. Sharing learning experiences and unique or special anecdotes are effective methods to share information with your student partner.
Provide Feedback
One of the most effective methods to encourage is to frequently provide affirming feedback as they progress toward a goal or assigned task.
Please keep in mind that we are permanently reachable at diana.cosma@ubbcluj.ro for continuous feedback.
