Directed by: Lysander Mills Co-Director: Jacen Conlan
The story follows the strained, sexual relationship between Li'l Bit and her aunt's husband, Uncle Peck, from her pre-adolescence through her teenage years into college and beyond. Using the metaphor of driving and the issues of pedophilia, incest, and misogyny, the play explores the ideas of control and manipulation.
This production contains extremely sensitive material that may be triggering some audience members. Some scenes contain references or visuals of sexual assault of a minor and may make people uncomfortable. If at any time during the performance you feel it necessary to leave the theatre, please feel free to do so. This show is not appropriate for all audiences. Viewer discretion is advised.
Due to the sensitive subject matter of the show as well as the increase in the awareness of sexual assault and the Me Too Movement, Theatre Guild has been working with another student organization on campus named The Coalition Against Sexual Assault (CASA) to put on this production. We are also working alongside the Rape Crisis Center here at Akron to provide a safe space for all discussion regarding the show. With April being Sexual Assault Awareness Month, the show opens the first weekend of the month as a way to further the discussion on the topic.
We ask that if you plan on attending this production, you understand that some of the actions that take place and topics discussed are not suitable for all audiences. Please be respectful to all audience members and members of the production.
Each night representatives from the Rape Crisis Center will be in attendance in case anyone in the audience needs any assistance for any reason.
The Period Project will be collecting donations of feminine hygiene products such as tampons or pads which will be donated to the Battered Women's Shelter of Summit & Medina Counties.
(See below for information on how donating can reduce the price of your ticket!)For those interested in participating in a talkback with one of the directors of the show, The Rape Crisis Center, and representatives from CASA, please join us on the evening of Friday, April 5th, ten minutes after the conclusion of the show for a thirty minute talkback which will allow audience members to discuss the events that were portrayed on stage and to ask any questions they may have.
Please remember to be courteous to others during the talk back as not everyone may have the same experiences as others and may be sensitive to specific words, phrases, or subjects.
