Jie received his Ph.D. in Atmospheric Science from the University at Albany under Dr. James Schwab in 2019, where he worked on multi-platform field campaigns and atmospheric composition measurements.
He later joined Dr. Jeff Collett’s group at Colorado State University as a postdoctoral fellow studying VOC emissions from unconventional oil and gas operations, and subsequently returned to Albany as a research scientist investigating landfill methane emissions and NYC urban plume–sea breeze interactions.
Before his Ph.D., Jie interned at the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI) analyzing NO₂ emissions using OMI satellite observations. He earned his master’s degree from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, specializing in environmental optics with a focus on DOAS.
