UAlbany Atmospheric Sciences Research Center (ASRC) Atmospheric Chemistry and Air Quality (ACAQ) research group investigates the chemical and physical processes that shape the evolution of anthropogenic and natural emissions, and their impacts on air quality and atmospheric composition.
Our work integrates a suite of measurement platforms—including our fully equipped mobile laboratory, regional ground-based networks, low-cost sensors network and state-of-the-art satellite observations—to capture to capture atmospheric boundary-layer chemistry processes across multiple spatial and temporal scales.
A key component of our research is identifying and characterizing extreme and non-traditional pollution events, such as heatwave-driven urban air pollution, wildfire smoke intrusions, and unconventional or transient source emissions. Through coordinated field observations, and data-driven approaches, we investigate how emissions evolve, interact with meteorology, and impact air quality and public health.
SPECIAL NOTE: Explore Your Air: UAlbany ASRC Mobile Air Quality Lab Public Outreach Tour
Our research group at Atmospheric Sciences Research Center (ASRC) at the University at Albany is planning to launch a public outreach tour featuring our Mobile Air Quality Laboratory—a fully equipped research vehicle used to study air pollution, atmospheric chemistry, and extreme weather-related pollution events.
During school or community visits, participants can explore the mobile lab, see real-time air-quality measurements, and learn how scientists study trace gases, aerosols, and local meteorology. The program is designed to spark curiosity, support STEM education, and help the public better understand the air we breathe.
The mobile lab is available for:
K–12 school visits and STEM classes
Community science events
Public outreach festivals
Summer camps and after-school programs
Undergraduate clubs and campus science days
