Vision Statement of the Graduate Christian Fellowship at the University of Arizona
Our vision is to build a Christian graduate fellowship that engages this University in all its ethnic, social, and academic diversity with the gospel of Jesus Christ, and which fosters spiritual growth in Christ through learning to practice godly disciplines together in community.
Spiritual Formation
We desire to cultivate a warm and vibrant relationship with the Lord Jesus and with one another, practice the spiritual disciplines, and deepen our spiritual lives. We need to know and understand the Scriptures with increasing depth. Superficial or second-hand knowledge of the Bible cannot sustain us as graduate students. Learning to practice regular and sustained prayer in community is equally essential.
Christian Community
Christ has called us not only to himself but also to one another as his people in the graduate community. Fellowship among graduate students is necessary for personal growth and corporate witness. We need involvement with like-minded peers and mentors for stimulus and accountability. We also need to confront the erosive effects of individualism by actively developing Christian community.
Integration of Faith and Learning
We seek to understand the implications of the Christian faith for our studies and all dimensions of our academic lives. We want to explore how honoring Jesus as Creator and Lord affects the content and shape of our studies. We seek a unity of truth in the midst of a fragmented world, and so we want to bring our academic lives under the lordship of Jesus Christ.
Witness and Service
We’re not ashamed of the gospel, so we corporately and individually hold out Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior in word and deed. Men and women in the graduate community need to see Jesus as a living reality, worthy of their devotion. As Christ was sent into the world as a servant to bear witness to the good news of the Redeeming and Loving God, teach and model righteousness and do good to all, so he has sent us into the world to do likewise.
