Optical frequency comb

Here are some of our results on ICL comb project when I was a postdoc at Caltech (USA). The project has collaborated with Dr. Mahmood Bagheri and Dr. Lukasz Sterczewski at Microdevices Lab, NASA, JPL.

How to tell that is a comb?👀

  • Each pair of neighboring comb lines produces a beating at their difference frequency. When this beat note appears narrow then a comb is formed, indicating the equidistantly spaced comb lines.

  • Comb is a series of narrow linewidth light sources whose lines are perfectly evenly-spaced. This is very important for ensuring all laser power can efficiently coupling into the cavity

Cavity-enhanced ICL comb spectroscopy

  • Chip-scale Mid-infrared ICL (Interband cascade laser) comb

  • Mode-resolved Vernier CEAS (Cavity-Enhanced Absorption Spectroscopy)
