Food apps are oftentimes a problem, difficult, and stressful for individuals with busy day-to-day lives to manage to get food and buy groceries in a timely manner. The solution I’ve designed is an app feature to solve both these problems at once with an easy setup-specific feature to allow scheduling deliveries. This allows users to easily prepare any necessary deliveries to be made for them ahead of time at their own convenience and time.

Conducting research with directed storytelling, I conversed with two individuals about their user experience with many various delivery apps. I posed questions on what they enjoyed most about the apps out there, and what problems existed at the time with said apps. I received insight on how the apps could be better and what could be changed. In the interviews, I gained the knowledge that some aspects of specific apps provided the users with eminent visibility, and that time played a huge role in the emotions and events in which they would decide to place an order. From this research, I decided on the layout of my app that I would use, and the exact feature to solve the time issue users experience when deciding whether or not to place an order within their busy schedules.
I began synthesizing the material to categorize what functions appealed to the users and what gave them issues that caused them to hesitate. With the help of my interviews, I wanted my app to be condensed with no clutter to ensure it would please the users. Along with this, my feature of adding a schedule to plan ahead would help deal with users who are routinely busy and would benefit from a process that allows them to think ahead whilst saving time. Concluding my synthesis, I developed my user goal: “My user group is young suburban adults in search of an application with the ability to set and customize recurring deliveries to fit within their busy schedules.”
Having a rough idea of the layout of the app I wanted to create, I completed basic sketching. I decided where to add my specific new feature and where to access it. With the simplistic design in mind, I decided to keep the design of the feature easy access to the users along with making the steps to completing the feature very simple. The schedule feature has an effortless drop-down and select which option applies to you. This allows users to complete the process in a timely manner, which was the main approach to my app.
Developed my user flow idea to better understand how I wanted the feature to be used. This gave me a clear path to creating the precise steps I wanted to include in the process of the feature.
Digitized my wireframes to get a feel for how I would like the app to look and function on an actual mobile device. With the insight from a familiar app, I kept simplicity in mind and focused solely on how I’d like my feature to be viewed as an app. I kept each screen consistent to ensure a convenient user experience when using the app.
I kept familiar tendencies with various apps already in the market that seem to attract and keep users engaged. Keeping each screen minimalistic gave me the same idea for prototyping my schedule feature. The process has easy step-by-step functions that allow the user to perform a tap on the dropdown menus, and a simple tap to complete each option available that applies to their needs.
The Outcome
I am aesthetically pleased with the outcome of the feature idea I wanted to create and the result. However, I am aware that there are future things that can be added to my feature so that users are not limited to a few options. The vision is for each user to create any schedule, unorthodox or not, that applies to only them and their busy daily lives.
