A Rube Goldberg Machine (RGM) is a crazy contraption which accomplishes a simple task in the most complicated and funniest way possible! Based on the “invention” cartoons of the famous, Pulitzer Prize-Winning Cartoonist, Rube Goldberg. His drawings and imagined machines are at the heart of the Rube Goldberg Machine Contest. They use everyday items (mostly junk!), they tell a story, and most important of all — they make you laugh!

While you are at home Virtually learning, first look around your house for everyday items that can be used for parts of the machine, then string those simple machines together to create a wacky chain-reaction contraption. Rube Goldberg Machines inspire communication, problem-solving and teamwork while honing skills like math, physics and chemistry. What separates a Rube Goldberg Machine Contest from other chain reaction competitions is artistry, storytelling, and a sense of humor.

Toilet paper falls into bucket
Bucket pulls down two train controllers (Geo Tracks)
Train controllers start two trains
Two trains move down track, one train knocks' down a cereal box
The cereal box starts a chain reaction causing a domino fall which ends with the last one pulling a string down with it.
The string goes around a PVC pip and pulls a ruler with string rapped around
The ruler launches forward pushing a tennis ball up enough to go down pipe
Tennis ball lands on the switch of surge protector
The surge protector powers a fan
The fan pushes wind causing a cereal box to fall
The cereal box pushes a lacrosse ball of a table

10/19/20 (9:05AM to 9:20AM) (15 minutes total) - Meet
10/21/20 (9:05AM to 9:20AM) (15 minutes total) - Meet
10/26/20 (9:05AM to 9:20AM) (15 minutes total) - Meet
10/27/20 (3:00PM to 4:00PM) - Started the build of the machine. Built steps 1-3 with a early version of step 4.

10/30/20 (2:00PM to 3:20PM) - Built steps 5-6 with a early version of step 4
11/2/20 (9:05AM to 9:20AM) (15 minutes total) - Meet
11/3/20 (12:00PM to 2:00PM) - Built steps 7-11 and changed step 4 to current version due to the difficulty of executing it, initial plan was for one train to fall and knock over the other train causing it to fall down and push the cereal box.
