Join us in holding space for deep work through movement.
Short Wave is an experimental ecstatic dance format. We wanted to create time and space in our busy schedules (and budget) for more intentional movement. It is not intended as a replacement for other community ecstatic or conscious dance options that we also attend but rather as an adjunct to them. We longed for dance mixes (and the sacred spaces that hold them) inspired by the ecstatic dance traditions of the 70s and 80s as they were reimagined in the Los Angeles ecstatic dance scene of the early 2000s.
In those spaces, we found the safety to work through pain, emotional bottlenecks, express joy and wonder, reconnect with our inner selves, and enter trance states, if we felt called to do so. No disruptions. No judgement. Just a growing flow of energies and our awareness of them within and all around us as we moved. We invite other experienced ecstatic dancers seeking such a space to experience this sympathy of movement. Bring your practice and join us.
Dancers with at least 5 years of consistent ecstatic dance practice or workshop experience in 5Rhythms, Soul Motion, Nia, JourneyDance, etc. will likely appreciate this dance format.
Beginners are also welcome when accompanied by a more experienced dancer.
About Two Suns Rising:
Two Suns Rising is a spiritual dance project started by my husband, Christopher Brannan, and myself, Kai Dailey, for the purpose of creating enriching movement experiences for each other, and for those in the community who may feel called to join us. We developed the Short Wave format to add to our busy schedules an additional weekly dance dedicated to advanced ecstatic practice. We named the project after the following Rumi poem,
What a day today. There are two Suns rising!
What a day, Not like any other day.
Look! The Light is shining in your heart,
The wheel of Life has stopped.
Oh, you who can see into your own heart,
What a day, This is your day.
-Rumi
About Dance Hosts:
Christopher Brannan discovered ecstatic dance in Los Angeles with Jo Corbett and Micheal Molin-Skelton in 2005. He is an inspired mix master with a sense of the funky and the sacred. Email: racebrannan@gmail.com.
Kai Dailey attended ecstatic dance for the first time at The Electric Lodge in Los Angeles with Micheal Molin-Skelton in 2008 and continued her study of ecstatic dance with Michael through workshops and weekly Prayers Made Visible. Kai's mixes lean toward the deep and immersive with rhythmic windows for self-reflection and empowering messages. Email: kai@thesacredcrane.org
Short Wave offers an additional dance option for the Spokane ecstatic dance community.
We dance in bare or stocking feet.
We express ourselves through movement.
We save voice conversation for the hallway or after dance.
We wait to be invited before touching another dancer.
We move as we feel called to do so.
We gather after dance for reflection and community, for those who wish to do so.
Please remove your shoes before walking on the wooden dance floor.
When there is snow, please park on the odd side of the street to ensure that snow plows have access.
The bathroom is not ADA accessible. It is downstairs and accessed via two flights of concrete stairs on the outside of the building.
In the rare event that dance is canceled due to weather, you will be notified as soon as possible via both phone (if you've provided a phone number) and email.
Join us at Yasodhara Yoga in Browne's Addition for Ecstatic Dance in Spokane. Check out their full calendar of classes. We are thrilled to be able to offer dance in such a beautiful, peaceful space. In the summer months, enjoy the Saturday farmers market in the park across the street.
