This is a great question. Sometimes your insurance will let you know if you need fire mitigation, but a lot of the time they are not thorough enough with what is considered fire safe. There are several ways to tell if your house is in fire danger, as explained in the services page of our website. Dead trees infected with diseases such as beetle kill are more than 3 times as likely to catch on fire. Areas of density that are crowded by smaller sapling trees are also at higher risk. Since sapling trees are smaller and hold less water, they act as a kindling or fire starter and have a higher chance of starting larger forest fires. Lodgepole forests also have a much higher chance of catching fire. Since lodgepole are a tall and not very wide tree, these forests can become very dense very quickly, leading to more dead trees, and less breathing room. 

The short answer is, nothing! If you want to get rid of small sapling trees by yourself, then go right ahead. Of course, if you would rather have us do it, we would be more than happy to! However, larger trees that are dead, or even the larger trees that are still alive are very complicated and dangerous to cut down. Tree logging and cutting is the most dangerous profession in the country, so you should probably leave the bigger trees to the professionals. 

No! While arborists do specialize in removing trees in tight locations, more often than not, one of our sawyers can get the tree down no problem, without having to section cut the tree from the top. In more dicey situations, we will use a cable and winch to pull the tree away from any hazards while cutting it in order to get the tree down absolutely as safely as possible. 

Powerlines can be tricky situations for sawyers and arborists, but there are ways to deal with them. One way is to limb the branches on the tree, that are at risk of hitting the power lines. Another way is to use a winch to pull the tree away from the power lines while cutting it. While it can be expensive and usually a last resort option, you can also call excel to remove the power line in order to cut the tree down safely.
