Twin Rivers BJJ is the sister school of Rivers Brazilian Jiu-jitsu (BJJ) school in Lawrence, Kansas. Rivers BJJ is a Gustavo Dantas Association School, founded by BDJJ third-degree black belt, Trevor Rivers. You can see more information about our sister school HERE.
At Twin Rivers BJJ we welcome all levels of students, whether you want to start a new passion, try somewhere new, or it's your home school. We are located in the heart of downtown Ottawa, KS (our entrance is in the alley, but you can't miss it!) and we can't wait to see you there! #let'sroll❤️💪🥋
Our mission is for all of our students to find an inviting environment where we practice this fun art and progress together.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. What is it? Brazilian jiu-jitsu, often abbreviated to BJJ, is a self-defense martial art and combat sport based on grappling, ground fighting, and submission holds. It originated in Brazil in the early 20th century. It's based on Japanese jiu-jitsu, which was brought to Brazil by Mitsuyo Maeda, a Japanese judoka. The Gracie family adapted the techniques to create their own style, which became known as Gracie Jiu-Jitsu. They began spreading their style to the United States and other parts of the world in the 1950s. Fun Fact! In 1993, Rorion Gracie and Art Davis created the Ultimate Fighting Championship (the UFC)! And...Rorion's younger brother, Royce Gracie, won the first UFC championship!
We are located in Building 304 on Main St. in downtown Ottawa, KS. You'll see our Jazzercise friends from the Main St. along with our Twin Rivers BJJ sign, but you'll find our entrance in the alley right behind them. Our school is in what used to be the old Keim Bakery, a family-run bakery that offered a large selection of baked deliciousness until they closed permanently in 2016.
Our space offers students private changing areas, lockers, individual restrooms, and a large space to train.
With a membership to Twin Rivers BJJ, students can access Rivers BJJ too! This provides our students with opportunities to train with our sister school students on different days and at different times of the week.
We offer more than just Brazilian jiu-jitsu too! We also offer kickboxing at the Ottawa location. Our sister school offers classes for women only, BJJ, kids classes, judo, and striking classes.
If you have any questions, please email us at twinriversbjj@gmail.com for more information. Or, feel free to walk in too!
