Method 1: Infrared (IR) Blaster

Many smartphones come equipped with an infrared blaster, which can be used to control devices that use infrared signals, including televisions. To use this method, you need to ensure that your phone has an IR blaster and that it supports the TV brand you want to control. You can download a compatible remote control app from your app store, set it up by selecting the brand and model of your TV, and start using your phone as a remote control.

Method 2: Universal Remote Control Apps

Several universal remote control apps are available in app stores that can work without WIFI. These apps use different methods to control your TV, such as Bluetooth or direct connection. You can search for these apps on your app store, download and install them, and follow the setup instructions provided. Once set up, you can control your TV using your phone without the need for WIFI.

Method 3: HDMI-CEC

HDMI-CEC (Consumer Electronics Control) is a feature available on many modern televisions. It allows you to control multiple HDMI-connected devices using a single remote control. Some smartphones support HDMI-CEC, allowing you to control your TV by connecting your phone to the TV via an HDMI cable. Once connected, you can navigate through menus, change channels, adjust volume, and perform other functions using your phone.

1. Can I control any TV with my phone without WIFI?

Not all TVs can be controlled with a phone without WIFI. You need to ensure that your TV supports the methods mentioned above, such as infrared blaster, HDMI-CEC, or manufacturer-specific apps.

5. Do all universal remote control apps work without WIFI?

Not all universal remote control apps work without WIFI. Some apps require a direct connection or Bluetooth connection to control your TV.

7. Are there any limitations to controlling my TV with my phone without WIFI?

Some functionalities, such as streaming apps or accessing online content, may not be available when controlling your TV without WIFI. These features usually require an internet connection.

My Google TV remote control has died with what looks to me like a hardware issue. The advice from the help line was to factory reset the chromecast which I thought unlikely to help but you have to go through the script right?

Unfortunately having factory reset the chromecast I now can't set it up at all as it stops at the point it wants to pair the remote. There's no chromecast wifi so the google home app can't see it. It's not on my wifi anymore becasue it's defaulted so I can't control it with my phone. It's connected via CEC-HDMI but it doesn't respond to the TV remote. If I try pairing it with an XBox controller it has a go but then fails and goes back round the loop.

You don't need Wi-Fi for the remote to work and as long as your Roku device isn't a stick that plugs directly into the TV without an HDMI cable you can get away with a cheap universal remote as long as it supports Roku. Roku voice remotes use Wi-Fi direct which, as the name implies, is a direct connection from the remote to the Roku device without the need for being connected to your Wi-Fi.

You keep reply the same thing about the remote. We have a Roku TV that we have lost the Remote. How do we buy another one. Our TV is a Roku TV that the remote was lost. We can not use this TV with out the Remote. You can not call anyone at Roku. We will certainly will not buy another Roku TV since you can not talk to a human about any problems and now our TV is useless. Please someone help us.

I understand that you lost your Roku remote for your Roku TV. In this case, we recommend contacting your TV's manufacturer directly to report this issue and request additional support. Each Roku TV manufacturer provides direct support and warranty services for their products running the Roku OS.

If you need a replacement remote for a Roku TV, you would need to contact your TV manufacturer. For a list of Roku TV manufacturers contact information, visit our Community post here: Contacting Support for Your Roku TV

You can also purchase a remote that is compatible with your Roku TV here: -tv

Now even worse potential news: if your Roku is the purple Stick (plugs directly into the TV without a cable), you can no longer get a new remote from Roku. And while you might find a remote on eBay, it would likely cost almost as much as buying a brand new Roku which will work far better than an old Stick.

If it's a black Stick, a new remote is available for $20. If it's a Roku that uses an HDMI cable to connect to the TV, then you can use an inexpensive universal IR remote (many under $10) that supports Roku IR codes. But no version of the Roku Stick (again, if it connects to the TV without a cable) supports IR remotes.

I lost my Apple TV remote, so I tried looking up other ways to control my Apple TV. I found the Apple Remote app, but I can't get it to work. The setup information I found indicates that you have to turn on home sharing on the Apple TV, but that can't be done without a remote. Obviously I don't have a remote right now, so I'm trying to find out if there's another way to get my Remote app to work on my Apple TV without the original remote. Can anyone help?

Boom boom boom your laptop is now the remote. Now take the Ethernet cable out and connect the Apple TV to the WiFi so I can connect my iPhone and use that as the remote (downloading another Apple TV remote app).

I had a similar problem and just figured out a solution which I hope helps others. After losing two Apple remotes, I had been using Apple Remote app successfully for a couple years. Unfortunately, a few days ago, I was changing some settings and somehow messed up my connection with my Remote app. The Remote app would not recognize my Apple TV. After looking everywhere online, I finally decided to restore my Apple TV to factory settings by connecting it to my iMac via a micro USB cable. After restoring it, I connected it back up to my TV as normal. The first thing it asks is if you would like to connect to a wireless keyboard, so I connected my Apple keyboard which then gained me control of the Apple TV so that I could go into Settings and reconnect my Apple Remote app. Let me know if this helps anyone else.

You basically need to setup a temporary remote (any TV remote) while Apple TV is connected via ethernet cable. I used a bluetooth keyboard to begin setup, and once temp remote was set, restart Apple TV and disconnect ethernet cable. Using temporary remote, go through settings to find wifi network, and once on and with all on same home sharing network the Apple Remote worked.

if you have a wireless keyboard disconnect from your Mac or PC turn off then turn it on. Apple TV will identify the Bluetooth connection and will give you a code enter the code in your keyboard and you're connected. No need to be connected to wifi or Ethernet

I had the same problem; we switched to a different wireless network and somehow my little apple remote disappeared as well, leaving the appleTV(3rd gen) completely useless. So I connected via ethernet and my computer monitor. The apple remote on my phone now worked again, so I was able to pair up a bluetooth keyboard and random house remote as well (Backups!). I then unplugged it from ethernet and using the newly paired keyboard, was able to enter in the wifi config. Thanks!

I read reviews and discussions here and elsewhere about XE3 wifi and bluetooth, but most seem interested in image transfer or location data transfer and I am at a loss to what extent the remote app is functional.

QUESTION 1) When I am in the middle of the desert (NO wifi) can the XE3 be operated by a smartphone with live view and shutter actuation. i.a.w. does the XE3 have its own WIFI signal that a smartphone can connect to?

I read many threads about the bluetooth/wifi in the XE3. People expressed page after page their sense of deep disappointment, betrayal, and grief regarding the remote app. It made me think that remote operation with live view wasn't even possible, something my cameras did fine more than 5 years ago.

Connections and live view works fine when there aren't other stronger wifi signals nearby. So outside this is rarely and issue but at home it's tricky since the phone will switch to the stronger network in a hurry. I haven't bothered forgetting my home wifi since I don't really need the remote thing at home.

Thank you Newshound. Sounds like the key is keeping the Wyze cam powered up AFTER we drop the Wifi/internet connections. Moving the Wyze to a remote location entails me to unplug the power, so that implies recording to the SD card remotely

without WiFi will not work in my case.

Yes, that would work. You may want to consider a pass-thru charging battery bank. A good battery bank can keep a cam up most of the day. The pass-thru charging will let you charge in the car and when you get there. As a bonus it will act as a UPS if you lose power at the remote location. 2351a5e196
