Speakers

Speaker 1 Prof. Bihu Suchetan

Prof Bihu Suchetana is an Assistant professor at the Department of Civil engineering at IIT Roorkee, India. Her research interests lie at the disciplinary interface of water quality, regulatory policy and public health, where she tries to develop frameworks for data-driven management and decision-making. Prof Suchetana’s research portfolio includes performance-based assessment of wastewater treatment system compliance with changing environmental regulations, and comparative studies of wastewater treatment systems in both India and US. She is also working on investigating the link of climate change on public health and engineered water systems. Her academic and research training at the interface of data science and water engineering provide her a unique perspective to emergent water issues in India and development of AI-based solutions for the same.

Speaker 2 Prof. Hari Prabhat Gupta

Prof. Hari Prabhat Gupta is an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology (BHU) Varanasi, INDIA. Previously, he was a Technical Lead in Samsung R&D Bangalore, India. His research interests include the Internet of things, ubiquitous computing, and smart sensing.

Speaker 3 Prof. Manabendra Saharia

Prof. Manabendra Saharia is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi. Previously, he worked in the Hydrology Lab of NASA Goddard Space Flight Center and the National Center for Atmospheric Research. He obtained his PhD in Water Resources Engineering from the University of Oklahoma during which he worked in the Advanced Radar Research Center. His primarily expertise is in developing techniques and systems for monitoring and mitigating natural hazards such as floods and landslides, with a special focus on the worst-affected regions of the world.

Speaker 4 Prof. Biplav Srivastava

Prof. Biplav Srivastava is an experienced researcher and technologist interested in enabling people to make rational decisions despite the real world complexities of poor data, changing goals and limited resources by augmenting their cognitive limitations with technology. Biplav is a Professor of Computer Science at the AI Institute at the University of South Carolina which he joined after two decades at IBM in roles of a Research Scientist, Distinguished Data Scientist and Master inventor. His expertise spans Artificial Intelligence (planning, semantic web, natural language processing), Services (process automation, composition) and sustainability (health, water, governance). He was the research lead for IBM Research's Smart City efforts in India between 2010-2016 with projects like BlueWater which prototyped usage of water data for societal use-cases using AI techniques and conducted AAAI 2017 tutorial on AI for water. Biplav’s works have led to many science firsts and high-impact commercial innovations valued over billions of dollars, 190+ papers and 60+ US patents issued, and awards for papers, demos and hacks. He has Ph.D. and M.S.from Arizona State University, USA and B.Tech. from IIT-BHU, India, all in Computer Science. For his work, Biplav has been recognized as an ACM Distinguished Scientist, AAAI Senior Member, IEEE Senior Member and AAAS Leshner Fellow for Public Engagement on AI (2020-2021).
