The mission of Exceptional Education’s TSW Team 7 is to provide high school students with disabilities a meaningful and rigorous internship under the supervision and training of personnel. By collaborating with TUSD’s Operation Department, students gain hands-on intern experience with TUSD journey people while being supervised by TSW A.C.T staff. Exceptional Education’s TSW Team 7 is composed of staff who believe every student can learn, be competitively employed and become a productive and respected member of their community.
The mission of Exceptional Education’s TSW Team 7 is to provide high school students with disabilities a meaningful and rigorous internship under the supervision and training of personnel. By collaborating with TUSD’s Operation Department, students gain hands-on intern experience with TUSD journey people while being supervised by TSW A.C.T staff. Exceptional Education’s TSW Team 7 is composed of staff who believe every student can learn, be competitively employed and become a productive and respected member of their community.
In collaboration with TUSD operations department, students work with TUSD staff to maintain school campuses and keep schools safe. This team takes care of all campuses around the district, taking care of hazards on campuses, parking lots, entry ways and other areas as needed. Students learn how to operate various tools with the direct support of a job coach and the supervision of a Roving Grounds staff. Examples of tools students are trained on include: rakes, weed trimmers, leaf blowers, brooms, clippers and others as necessary. The teams visits different sites on a rotating schedule, so they learn skills in different environments and circumstances, helping to generalize knowledge.
Working alongside journeymen in TUSD, TSW students in the Advanced Community Training Program are learning how to operate and learn the technical language of a variety of tools such as a hedge trimmer, work with coworkers, follow a schedule, all while practicing safety skills and wearing Personal Protective Equipment.
