What is the difference between recreational and progressive classes?
Recreational- classes are age based on focus on learning the basics in a safe, fun, and non competitive environment. Classes meet once a week on your chosen day.
Progressive- classes are based on skill level and the focus is on technique, body strength, and flexibility. Gymnasts are tested at the end of each session to evaluate their skills. Gymnasts are able to attend all class times offered for their level.
Should my child be in recreational or progressive classes?
Parents decide the level of commitment they want. Each family is able to decide which style of class they want to enroll in
My child is in recreational classes but we want to switch, how do I know if he/she is ready?
It is entirely up to your family if you are ready for progressive. Once you feel that you are ready for more commitment a coach will help you decide which level your gymnasts should be in.
My child would like to join the training team/team, how do I enroll in that?
Each gymnasts must try out for the team. Set up an appointment with the director if your child would like to be evaluated for team.
Do we have to do gymnastics all year?
There is no requirement for gymnastics. You can sign up for one session or all of them.
What should my gymnast work on at home?
We do not recommend the training of gymnastics at home. It is unsafe for gymnasts to try new skills without the help of a coach. Sometimes without proper instruction, the gymnasts also form incorrect habits while performing the skill. Working on perfecting the skills they already have is a great idea! Make sure toes are pointed, knees are straight, and arms are tight by ears.
STRETCHING & CONDITIONING are highly recommended at home! Gymnasts are only able to advance their skills if they have the proper flexibility and strength.
