The TUP Debate Society was founded on 23 May 2016 by active student leaders who saw the need for education in competent communication and professional facilitation of issues which directly affect the student body as part of the University and as citizens of the country.
The TUP Debate Society shall be a university wide campus-based student organization aiming to hone and enrich communication skills, promote intellectual and professional discourse, discuss issues in and out of the university, and foster excellence in the students through competitive speech and debate activities.
The TUP Debate Society shall be the primary, most prominent and influential guild in the country advancing public speaking to propagate social consciousness and liberate our countrymen to be responsive and pro-active in societal issues.
The TUP DebSoc shall exercise the rights to freedom of speech, of expression, or of the press, or the right of the people to peaceably assemble and petition the government for redress of grievances observing as what it is stated in Article III Section 4 of the 1987 Constitution of the Republic of the Philippines which shall be duly respected, valued and acknowledged by the school community.
The TUP DebSoc shall inculcate good manners and right conduct to its members thru the basic rules, core values and principles herein, the laws of the land, the rules and regulations of the university, and the standards of good society.
The TUP DebSoc shall help its individual members improve their abilities to communicate effectively, encourage them to read and listen analytically, express their thoughts creditably, and provide them instructions and opportunities which will give them skill and experience in the preparation and delivery of speeches.
The TUP DebSoc shall cooperate with other sectors of the TUPian community and at all times maintain valued public participation in forums, debate, and orations which are duly reflective of the societal issues which directly or indirectly affect them as students of the university and as citizens of the country.
The TUP DebSoc shall not exclude any member from any programs or activity of this society for reasons of age, race, color, creed, gender, national, or ethnic origin, sexual orientation, or physical and mental disability, so long as the individual, through his own effort is able to participate.
The TUP DebSoc recognizes the vital role of the youth and their right to exercise competitive speech and debate essential for empowering them in becoming engaged citizens, skilled professionals, and honorable leaders of our society.
