PRE-BURN PREP PARTY!
Date: Saturday, September 27
Location: Here’s a pin.
Off 108 if coming from Sonora. Take right onto Tuolumne Rd North. Then take left of Robin Hood Dr. Stay Straight at King Arthurs Court. Once you get to the Calder Sack, stay straight. Go up the narrow road that says dead end and no trespassing. At the top of the hill take sharp right onto the dirt road. Look for a marked parking area. Land is up this dirt road about 500 feet once you get to the wood line. Someone will be there to direct parking.
Arrival Time: 0900
Departure Time: 1200
Details: We’ll be prepping an area (< 1 acre) of mixed conifer for pile and broadcast burning when conditions are right, later this fall or in the spring. Topography is steep and varied, so this event requires good balance and sturdy shoes. Work will include limbing trees, moving brush and limbs, raking of pine needles, and making lines around finished piles to bare mineral soil. Gloves and long sleeves highly recommended.
Be prepared with:
Water bottle/receptacle (we will provide water)
Snacks if you think you might need a caloric boost
Tool(s) if you have them.
Chainsaw (we will assume if you bring one, you know how to use it safely and will bring appropriate PPE)
Handsaw
Pole saw
Loppers
Rake
Shovel
McLoud
Leather boots or sturdy hiking boots
Gloves
Personal protective equipment appropriate to the tools you are bringing
Sunscreen/sun protection
Intrinsic Risk: As always, working in the field or with fire holds intrinsic risk. Participants will be required to sign a volunteer liability waiver when they arrive, or better yet, sign it online before you arrive. This agreement states that you will hold Tuolumne PBA, its volunteers, and the landowner harmless in the event of an injury. The liability form can be found and signed here. Our number one priority is safety and before beginning the day, there will be a safety briefing to ensure that everybody on site is aware of hazards and understands how to reduce their risk of injury.
