I am a junior who has been playing harp for 6 years and thoroughly enjoys it. Over these years, I had achieved multiple awards in competitions such as Young Artist's Harp Seminar, Infinity International Harp Competition, and American Harp Society. I have also been able to play in the Indianapolis Youth Orchestra and Carmel High School Orchestra. Outside of harp, I enjoy coaching rhythmic gymnastics. In my free time, I love taking photos, stretching, folding origami, and journaling.
I am a high school sophomore who has been playing the harp for around 8 years, and have been immersed in classical music for most of my life. I have previously competed and won awards in 2 harp competitions (Infinity Harp Competition, Midwest Harp Competition) in the past few years. Before starting the harp, I played violin for 5 years, and I have always loved being able to share the music that I love with other people. Outside of harp, I enjoy dancing ballet, reading, and baking.
Hello, my name is Mikaela. I’m a fifteen year old girl who has been playing music all her life, originally starting on the piano before transitioning into harp in my Freshman year of High School. I adore both listening and playing music, most often listening to Indie music, and playing songs that I enjoy on the harp. I am also a competitive dancer and perform in theatre, and in my freetime, I enjoy writing, drawing, and sharing stories that I create.
Hi! I am Abby and I am a sophomore in high school. I have been playing harp for about 5 years. I have played a lot of different styles of harp, but especially love playing music from Latin America. I also swim and love running with my sister.
I’m currently a freshman who has been playing harp for the past four years. For the first two years of my harp career I played the lever harp but starting recently, I’ve been playing the pedal harp. I enjoy all forms of music, mostly including forms of pop. I also enjoy running track and cross country and performing in my school’s orchestra.
Hi! I am currently a junior at Bloomington High School South, and this is my second year playing harp. I have played both the pedal harp and the lever harp but I am most interested in playing Celtic music on the lever harp. Outside of harp, I sing opera, play the flute, teach piano, SCUBA dive, and I am in show choir.
Hello! I am a 7th grader who has been playing harp for around 4 years. Outside of harp, I enjoy running cross country and competitive level 6/7 gymnastics. In my freetime, I enjoy crocheting, crafting, traveling, and baking. At school, I am part of the yearbook staff, and I play the tenor saxaphone in my school band!
Dr. Fan-Fen Tai is a performer and dedicated educator, she has earned critical acclaim for her dazzling interpretations of the harp repertoire—The Herald‑Times praised her “pleasure of a [Handel] harp concerto…played dazzlingly,” while the Tucson Citizen lauded her “virtuoso tour de force” and “intricate pedaling, coloristic nuance and kaleidoscopic mood.” on her performance of the Ginastera harp concerto.
She is the director of the Jacobs Harp Academy at Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music, where she teaches and nurtures students of all ages and levels. She aims to inspire and cultivate her students' love of harp and her teaching tailors to her students' interests. Her students all love playing harp and some of them have earned prizes in competitions nationally and internationally.
She also collaborates with composers on creating new works, and advocates for community engagement, performing constantly in her local communities to bring harp music beyond the concert hall. She has appeared as concerto soloist with ensembles including the Taipei Symphony Orchestra, Asian Youth Orchestra, U of Arizona and IU Orchestras. She won the First Taiwan National Harp Competition, Concerto Competitions with Taipei Symphony Orchestra and U of Arizona, and the First Vera Dulova Harp Competition in Moscow.
Dr. Tai holds a Doctor of Music degree from Indiana University (2009), a Master of Music from the University of Arizona, and a Bachelor of Music from Taipei National University of Arts.
