The theory suggests that there are multiple systems that influence a child in development, ranging from the immediate environment ,microsystem, to broader cultural contexts ,macrosystem.
Bronfenbrenner a developmental psychologist that porposed the idea of the ecological systems theory. This theory encompasses the idea of micro and macro systems. The macrosystem being the immediate surroundings and environment of any given child, family members, peers, and teachers directly effecting this. While in the microsystem the family plays the most central role in the childs development. The macrosystem represents a cultural and social context in which the child is presented to and brought up in.Â
Parenting styles refer to the broad patterns of attitudes, behaviors, and strategies that parents use to raise and socialize their children. These styles reflect the overall approach that parents take in nurturing and disciplining their children and can have a significant impact on children's development and well being. There are four main styles in parenting those being, authoritative, authoritairian, permissive, and neglectful. Authoritative parents are both highly responsive and highly demanding. They are warm, nurturing, and supportive, while also setting clear and reasonable expectations for their children's behavior. Authoritarian parents are high in demandingness but low in responsiveness. They are strict, controlling, and often rely on punishment and discipline to enforce rules. Permissive parents are high in responsiveness but low in demandingness. They are indulgent, lenient, and reluctant to impose rules or discipline. Neglectful parents may prioritize their own needs or interests over those of their children, leading to a lack of emotional connection and nurturance. They may fail to establish clear rules or expectations for behavior, resulting in inconsistent or absent discipline.
