Classical conditioning is a fundamental of behavioral psychology, it involves learning through association between a neutral stimulus and a naturally occurring stimulus. Within classical condtioning there are four elements, unconditioned stimulus (US), unconditioned response (UR), conditioned stimulus (CS), and the conditioned response (CR). These four elements are the building blocks for classical conditioning. The US, this is a natural stimulus that creates a response without any prior knowledge. The UR, this is the the natural response caused by the US. The CS, this is a neutral stimulus that is rewired through the course of conditioning to create a desired response. The CR, this is the desired response to the CS.
Operant conditioning, is a type of learning in which behavior is strengthened or weakened by the consequences that follow it. Unlike classical conditioning, which involves associations between stimuli, operant conditioning focuses on the relationship between behavior and its consequences. This theory of conditioning is based around positive and negative reinforcment. Positive reinforcement happens when the subject conducts a desired behavior and is rewarded in hopes to bolster the rate at which the behavior is preformed. Negative reinforcement takes something away or gives no reward when the incorrect behavior is preformed in hopes to negate that behav
