The Department of Chemical Sciences is one of the most active department of prestigious Best Visitor's Award winning educational institute, Tezpur University. Decorated by well-trained and extremely motivated faculty as well as bright students, the department constantly strives to maintain a culture of excellence in research and uphold the highest standards in chemical education. The Department of Chemical Sciences was started in the year 1997. The Department has been offering Ph.D. in Chemical Sciences, M.Sc., integrated M.Sc. and integrated B.Sc./B.Ed. program in Chemistry. The Department is housed with 17 research laboratories, 7 general laboratories, 5 sofisticated laboratories, 7 class rooms, one conference and one seminar hall. This Department is supported by DST-FIST and UGC-SAP (DRS-II) level.
The Department of Environmental Science was established in January 2004 with the objective of imparting education on regional and global environmental issues. The department offers two academic programmes M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Environmental Science. The curriculum for M.Sc. and Ph.D. programmes focuses on all-important aspects of Environmental Science, covering contemporary problems of nature conservation and environmental quality. Keeping in view the unique physiographic and agro-climatic settings of Northeast as a whole and Assam in particular, the department gives emphasis in teaching and research on various aspects of agro-ecosystem and hill ecosystems of Northeast India.
The Department of Mathematical Sciences was started in July, 1994 as one of the first three departments of Tezpur University with the objective of producing trained manpower for undertaking research and teaching in mathematics and allied branches of basic and applied sciences. It also aimed to groom trained mathematicians for problem solving in industry and other concerns. Apart from offering Masters degree in Mathematics (2 year and Integrated 5 year programmes) it offers a 4-year Integrated B.Sc. B.Ed. programme in mathematics. The department also offers research in areas such as Number theory (Ramanujan's Mathematics), Discrete Probability Distributions, Combinatorial optimization, Algebra, Fuzzy mathematics, Topology and applications, Operator Theory and applications, Finite element method etc. Several projects under the sponsorship of the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), University Grants Commission (UGC) and Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) have been completed by the department. Several other projects under the sponsorship of various organizations are running in the department.
Alumni of the department are engaged in various universities, research institutes, colleges, other institutions as well as different software and other organisations.Currently there are seventeen faculty members. There are two technical staff who look after the computer laboratory. The department is currently supported under UGC-SAP (DRS-I) and DST-FIST 2012 grants.
The Department of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (MBBT) is supported by UGC-SAP DRS II and DST-FIST. It was established on July 24, 1997. Department got recognition from Department of Biotechnology (DBT) of the Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India for its Post Graduate programme in 1998. The department offers two-year M. Sc degree in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, five year Integrated M Sc in Bioscience and Bioinformatics/Life Sciences and PhD in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology. Faculty members of the department are trained in modern areas of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology from various Internationally reputed Institutes and actively involved in research.
The Department of Physics has stridden out not only in its post-graduation teaching but also in new frontiers of research since its commencement in January 1998.
