As you begin your journey, here are a couple of things to understand about using this guide:

  • Each page in this guide has lots of content! To help you make sense of things, the top of each page will have information to guide your learning. Look for the phrase "Plan for Getting Started"

  • Some pages list Easy Wins. These are tasks you can accomplish without being an expert at using Google Classroom, and so are things you might try first when using your own class.

Before you start playing:

We suggest taking a look at this list of Frequently Asked Questions from commonsense.org - you don't need to read the whole thing, but this will give you an overview of what Google Classroom is all about.


To get started:

Before you can do anything with Google Classroom, you will need to create your first class and add students.

Next Steps:

Once you have a class created and students added, you can start taking advantage of the four sections of Google Classroom:

  • Stream Tab, for creating announcements and and managing conversations

  • Classwork Tab, for creating and organizing assignments

  • People Tab, for managing students, families, and for sending bulk emails

  • Grades Tab, for working with many assignments and grades at once
