**leadership role
It's a paid job that you can set your own hours for. Which means you can put in as much time/effort as your schedule allows.
It's ridiculously fun. The kids are sassy, exubrant and hosts a dynamic sense of personality unmatched by your handling a monotonous cash register.
You get to reaffirm your own knowledge for whatever subject you are teaching. Even at the basic elementary level, teaching a fourth grader English will force you to review intrinsic grmmar rules.
There is a sense of accomplishment as you become attached to your tutee and watch their improvement throughout the years. You form a new connection that you wouldn't have had or else.
In the end, you build up dynamic personal skills as you learn how to communicate ideas more effectively and how to handle your tutoring commitments amidst your many other responsibilities.
While we don't look for individuals that have had extensive experience in tutoring, these traits below are indicative of a competent tutor.
This means you'll be responsive to communication between your tutee, the parent and Tutor Time if needed. It also means that you will take charge and prepare lesson plans ahead of time as well as place a priority on tutoring.
We want our tutors to enjoy what they are doing. If you do not like interacting with people younger/around your age, that attitude will most likely come across.
Know how to handle difficult questions in the spot. Know how to assist your student in learning how to fish, rather than just handing them a fishing manual.
Your commitment as a tutor does not end when the lessons end. Often tutors put in more time than what is compensated for. You are responsible for sending follow ups/reminders to students as well as planning ahead and creating your own original curriculum when needed.
In the subject that you are aiming to tutor for, you should have demonstrated academic success. This can be reviewed in terms of grades, standardized testing scores or portfolios when appropriate.
Be respectful and reasonable towards the students. Remain conscientious of their schedules and work with them, not against them. Do not assign too much homework.
