our story
It started with a spontaneous WeChat connection. At the time of my Sophomore year, my father was involved in several parent communities. There was a request for a tutor, I took it and that was the start of this journey.
My student was rather rambunctious. Spunky, energetic and happy. She wore poofy dresses and sang songs.
For weeks, I work with her on grammar, reviewing her daily journal entries and teach her how to write with both short succinct sentences as well as long, complex ones. The mom thought that I did a good job and invited me to tutor her neighbor.
So onwards with my second gig. Quickly, she had more referrals from some other Chinese families that recently moved in. I couldn’t keep up with the requests so I pulled in some friends to come help me. They started tutoring and often, parents would inquire with us and ask for us to tutor their children too.
Eventually, I had so many requests that I had to formally recruit for tutors. I wrote up a website, created an application and advertised on social media. In 2 days, over 40 people applied. I went through each and every application, making detailed comments of compatibility with tutee and noting their experience level. For certain applicants, I met up one on one and interviewed them.
I sent out acceptance emails, contacted parents and introduced my tutors to my parent clients.
...
Now? It's a spontaneous eclectic loosely formed network of student tutors and tutees. View future for my vision and expansion plans.
