QPR Suicide Prevention

QPR (Question, Persuade, and Refer) Gatekeeper Training for Suicide Prevention is an educational program designed to teach lay and professional "gatekeepers" the warning signs of a suicide crisis and how to respond.

This training is coordinated by Jefferson Center and supported by a Garrett Lee Smith Suicide Prevention grant, funded by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) to support suicide prevention work.

QPR is a 90 minute gatekeeper training that stands for Question, Persuade, and Refer — 3 simple steps that anyone can learn to help save a life from suicide. Just as people trained in CPR help save thousands of lives each year, people trained in QPR learn how to recognize the warning signs of a suicide crisis and how to question, persuade, and refer someone to help. Those who attend will learn to:

· Recognize the warning signs of suicide

· Know how to offer hope

· Know how to get help and save a life

Youth Mental Health First Aid

Youth Mental Health First Aid is designed for adults who regularly interact with young people (ages 12-18). The course introduces the unique risk factors and warning signs of mental health problems in adolescents and builds an understanding of the importance of early intervention. Please note, you must attend both days to receive your certification

Positive Youth Development

Positive Youth Development (PYD) Training is an approach that helps youth-serving organizations, business owners, educators, city governments, parents and whole communities organize youth support and services so all young people have the opportunity to reach their fullest potentials. PYD serves to increase protective factors, such as healthy youth and adult relationships, and works towards promoting healthy youth behaviors and outcomes while diminishing the likelihood of negative health and social outcomes (risk factors).

This training is for anyone who cares about the young people in your community! Training is free.

Twelve Talks to Have With Teens

Jefferson County data shows that many teens don't have an adult to go to when they need to talk. Be that adult for a teen in your life.

Visit TwelveTalks for more information.

Start the Conversation

Are you concerned that the teen in your life is currently vaping, worried they may start, or simply want more information on the tobacco trend that’s been making headlines recently?

We’re here to support you.

This community dialogue is intended for parents/guardians, school staff, coaches, mentors, law enforcement, and anyone who wants to support healthy, happy youth. You’ll gain important insight into the trends, health effects, and culture of youth vape use, as well as the opportunity to practice and develop valuable skills to have conversations with the youth in your life.

This workshop and the skills we'll be building are intended for adult - not youth - participation. Unfortunately, we cannot provide child care at this time.
