Teacher's Day

Teacher’s Day, an occasion of great significance in India, is observed annually on the 5th of September to honor and celebrate the birth anniversary of the eminent philosopher and statesman, Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan. This day serves as a poignant reminder of the invaluable contributions made by teachers in shaping the future of individuals and society. It also offers a unique opportunity for students to temporarily assume the role of educators, gaining profound insights into the complexities of the teaching profession.

My personal journey in commemorating Teacher's Day commenced in the second standard, igniting a fervent desire within me to pursue a career in education. From those early years until my graduation, I actively participated in the traditional style of Teacher’s Day celebrations, where students express gratitude and admiration for their mentors. These celebrations not only fostered a sense of appreciation for the hard work and dedication of teachers but also deepened my aspiration to follow in their footsteps.

However, the trajectory of my Teacher's Day experiences took an unexpected turn during my graduation years, coinciding with the global COVID-19 crisis. Unfortunately, the pandemic disrupted our usual celebrations, marking a poignant departure from the customary festivities. Despite the challenges, the absence of traditional gatherings served as a poignant reminder of the resilience and adaptability required in the field of education.

Nevertheless, my perspective on the art of teaching underwent a profound transformation upon my enrollment in the Department of English. Within this academic domain, our approach to learning shifted from conventional methods to a more contemporary style, embracing the integration of technology into the classroom experience.

Guided by the visionary leadership of Dr. Dilip Barad sir, the Head of the Department of English, our Teacher's Day experience took an innovative turn. Departing from the customary practices, we were assigned a unique task: to create a short video lecture. This lecture was to be uploaded on our personal YouTube channels, accompanied by the creation of an online quiz based on the content. Both the video lecture and quiz were then to be shared on platforms such as Ted. Ed and our individual blogs.

What elevates the impact of this teaching methodology is its inherent accessibility. The content we produced transcended the confines of our classroom; it became available to a global audience. Anyone, irrespective of their geographical location, could watch the video, engage in the quiz, and upon successful completion, receive a personalized certificate of participation, complete with their achieved score. This forward-thinking approach not only enriched my personal understanding of teaching dynamics but also opened up new avenues for a broader audience to derive benefits from educational content in the digital age.

This experience reinforced the notion that education is not limited by physical boundaries. The amalgamation of technology and pedagogy showcased the potential for disseminating knowledge far beyond the traditional confines of a classroom. As I celebrate my 13th Teachers' Day, it is with a newfound appreciation for the evolving landscape of education and the exciting possibilities that lie ahead as I transition from being a student to an educator in this dynamic and interconnected world.
