Whom we choose for union leadership and that we exercise our choice are two of the most important, impactful factors in every faculty member's workplace experience. I sincerely hope that every single faculty member of the Federation will exercise their voting rights and participate in officer elections. Further, I hope faculty invest the time to consider their choices and make the best choices they can for our body. I'm looking forward to supporting the following candidates in this election.
Laila Dellapasqua for PT VP - Here's a short and incomplete list of things that I've negotiated alongside Laila in the past several years that didn't even exist in our contract prior to that: the largest raises PT faculty have seen at ECC, PT RPL with seniority provisions and assignment protections, two additional steps on PT pay schedules, paid PT PD hours, paid PT OH, paid jury duty, more generous PT sick leave accrual, and up to $8,000 of healthcare support from the District each semester. Laila has single-handedly built a powerful, organized PT faculty community in a way not seen at ECC at any point prior. Moreover, she has been one of the fiercest voices in winning new PT faculty rights and most ardent defenders of those PT faculty rights during the time she has served as PT VP of the Federation. Having worked closely with Laila for years, witnessing just how dedicated she is to improving the fundamental working conditions of PT faculty in particular, I think she is the best choice for PT VP, and I will be enthusiastically voting for her again.
Ryan Turner for Treasurer - Ryan is one of, if not the most, reliable, organized, and competent people I've ever worked with. During the time that Ryan has served as Treasurer, I've served as VP, which, according to the constitutional duties of our offices, means that we regularly work together to ensure proper accounting of membership, dues, District payroll records, union budgets, revenue, expenses, compliance with CFT/AFT membership, legal tax compliance, general financial oversight, and checks/balances to make all of our financial actions transparent, legally compliant, and free from even the appearance of impropriety. In every case, Ryan is prepared with accurate, clear documents, a level-headed, ethical approach, and the expertise to communicate any issues or solutions at hand. Given Ryan's extensive experience as Treasurer, his significant job-related training over the years he's served in the position, and his phenomenal record as principle custodian of the union's finances, the most fundamental and important job duty of the Treasurer, I believe no one is more qualified than Ryan Turner to serve as Federation treasurer. I'm looking forward to voting for Ryan again this spring.
