The career that I have decided to pursue is mechanical engineering. I have been interested in this career from a early age. What really sparked my interest in this field was the early interest I had and continued to maintain in designing and building things of my own. It wasn't till I got in Highschool that I figured out that this career was right for me until I started taking more advanced math and coding classes. After my first year in the engineering program at our tech center I have really enjoyed the content of the class which has really allowed me to engage in this field.
At my home school Leonardtown Highschool I have focused my studies on honors classes that will help me succeed in the engineering field. Some classes that I have taken so far that have me achieve this choice are Honors Algebra 1 and 2 and Honors PreCalc as well as dual enrollment Calculus at local community college. All of these classes have improved my problem solving ability and improved the way I can identify problems and get the the proper solution that is needed. Another class that I have taken during my high school career was AP computer science, this class has taught and expanded my knowledge of code and the way you can program things to get to the end goal you want.
When I am not at school some of the extracurricular activity's I participate in are sports. Most of the year I play baseball for many different teams playing at different levels. This has taught me much diversity that must be faced through life through many different ways. Some teams I play for are Leonardtown Highschool team I have played with both varsity and jv the last two years. We recently won the 4a state championship in 2024. Being apart of that team has taught many different lessons that are valuable in the work place like working together and the determination and strive to be better. I also play for American legion Post 255 where I have won a state championship in the Junior division in 2023 as well as 2025 state semi finalist in the senior division. Finally I play for the Southern Maryland Aces a travel organization that is focused on developing players to be the best they can be which I feel translates perfectly into the work community.
The plan for me right after high school is to go into College of southern MD and than transfer to University of Maryland. I plan to work to earn a degree in Mechanical engineering and pursue a job in the custom boat building field with that degree. I want to go to college to further learn and experience all of the things that come with the engineering field
After I achieve my goal of becoming a engineer the affect it will have on th ecommunity will be positive because it will enrich the community with more peopel who ar ealwals looking for things that can be improved inside the community itself. I feel once you start to make a positive impact upon the community you live in it will start to make a positive impact in the world you live in because once you focus on the smaller things progress keeps increasing causing the same affect upon the bigger things just like the world we live in.
