Our troop provides tents, cook stoves, cooking gear, and water filters. Full packing lists are available on our Resources page. You probably have many of the items on these lists already. Please ask for suggestions or recommendations if you are unsure of something.
If there are items you don't already own, please talk to us before making any large gear purchases! The troop can provide camping and backpacking gear that Scouts can use until they have acquired their own personal equipment.
When car camping, there is no weight concern for gear. Leaders will caravan to the destination with the Scouts and gear in tow. Once at the destination, the Scouts will set up camp and remain at the campsite for the duration of the trip. Cooking will be done by patrol, so Scouts will not be responsible for bringing individual food items.
When backpacking, Scouts will be hiking to their campsite and carrying all their gear with them. Weight is very important to consider on backpacking trips because everything the Scout will need for a two-night campout will be carried in their pack. Unused "just in case" items are extra weight, and every ounce adds up. Scouts will be responsible for bringing their own food items (freeze-dried meals, no cans, and nothing that requires refrigeration).
Your daughter is responsible for what is in her pack. Please do not pack for her! You can help her gather the required items, however, she should learn to pack her own pack. It is important for her to know what she has and where it is when she is at camp or on trail because you won't be there!
