Troop 82: What's the Real Story?
The first part of our program is outdoor skills; the second is leadership. ⚜️
We are a Scout-led troop. Our higher-ranking Scouts teach, mentor, and lead the younger ranks. We aren't just building campers; we are building tomorrow's leaders.
We don't do boring weekends.
Our outdoor activities take us on real adventures—whitewater rafting, mountain biking, fishing, rock climbing, aerial rope courses, and West Point Camporees. If you want adventure, you’ll find it here.
When we hike, we do it with our eyes open.
We always make time to stop, stand, and stare at nature's beauty. In a fast-paced world, we teach Scouts to appreciate the incredible views right in front of them.
We love to eat!
We go way beyond basic burgers and hot dogs. We encourage our Scouts to master cooking meals they can be proud of for the rest of their lives. It’s not just camp food; it’s culinary skills in the wild.
We don’t just read history books; we walk through them.
Every year, Troop 82 hosts a historical campout or activity. We’ve explored Gettysburg, Fort Ticonderoga, the Boston Freedom Trail, Valley Forge, and the history of Manhattan. It’s hands-on learning you can’t get in a classroom.
Service is at the heart of Scouting. From collecting for food banks and running blood drives to honoring veterans on Memorial Day, our Scouts are always giving back.
Plus, our Scouts plan and lead massive Eagle Scout service projects that make a lasting impact on our community.
What would a campout be without a fire? 🔥
We teach our Scouts how to build and maintain safe fires, but more importantly, we teach them to enjoy the fellowship that comes from sharing food and stories around the flames.
We explore, we hike, and we camp hard! Exploring the outdoors is serious fun, but it can certainly tire you out. At Troop 82, we believe the best sleep is the kind you earn after a full day of adventure. 😴⛺️
