Our pack encourages that every adult that wishes to participate in aquatic activities complete both the Safe Swim Defense training and the Safety Afloat training.
Note: A My.Scouting.Org account will be required to complete training. Once the account is created, look for links to the BSA Learn Center and use the search bar for appropriate courses.
Swimming is permitted in enclosed swim areas that are properly divided into ability groups (Non Swimmer, Beginner, and Swimmer)
Limited to water no more than chest deep
Limited to water extending to depths just over the head. Scouter MUST pass the Beginner test
Limited to water no more than 12 feet deep. Scouter MUST pass the Swimmer test
Beginner: Jump feet first into water over the head in depth, level off, swim 25 feet on the surface, stop, turn sharply, resume swimming as before, and return to starting place.
Swimmer: Jump feet first into water over the head in depth, level off, and begin swimming. Swim 75 yards in a strong manner using one or more of the following strokes: sidestroke, breaststroke, trudgen, or crawl; then swim 25 yards using an easy resting backstroke. The 100 yards must be swum continuously and include at least one sharp turn. After completing the swim, rest by floating.
