Maine High Adventure
Leader Notes
Sock/shoes are one of the most important things. The 2 socks listed in the gear list is a minimum not a recommendation. I would suggest 3 synthetic & 1 wool. Synthetics should be worn with water shoes to eliminate blisters/rub marks on feet.
Shoes should be changed one back to the camp site. Ensure foot power is in the gear, I missed it and ended up with 4 kids having trench foot.
Water filtration is a must in my opinion. A good gravity fed system will help supply water along the way, especially if the scouts lose one of the water bottles needed for iodine treatment.
Bring electrolytes just incase of dehydration.
If adults bring their own tents they can sleep in their own tents. If they do not they will share a two person tent provided by MHA. We stumbled into this by accident, but was very happy we did. Some sites are small but atleast having the option to have your own tent is nice.
Fishing gear is not provided, you must bring your own if you want it. I found in the docs but missed the first time.
Emailing in the summer is unlikely to get you any response. Even texting as the date got closer did not work. Calling is mediocre, but workable. They have very limited services up at base camp so you really need to get your questions to them prior to them getting to base camp. I think its listed as June 1st.
