Any girl ages 10–17 who has earned the Arrow of Light rank in Cub Scouts or is at least 10 years old and in 5th grade (after March 1st) can join Troop 168. Scouts of all backgrounds or experience are welcome to participate.
You can join by attending a troop meeting and speaking with our Scoutmaster or Committee Chair. We also offer an online registration form on our website for your convenience. Please see our Join page for more information.
Joining Troop 168 involves a few costs to cover national and local BSA fees, uniforms, and activity expenses. Typical costs include:
BSA membership fee (annual)
Camping and Special Activities (fee per event or activity)
Uniform and Handbook
The troop also participates in fundraising activities to help offset costs and make Scouting more affordable for all families. Financial assistance may be available for those who need it. Please speak with the Scoutmaster or Committee Chair for more information.
BSA Troop 168 holds meetings most Monday nights from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the Connecticut Farms Presbyterian Church in Union, NJ. Please note that meetings may occasionally be rescheduled for holidays or special events.
Scouts in Troop 168 participate in camping, community service, merit badges, leadership training, and fun activities designed to build character, citizenship, and outdoor skills.
We camp once a month for a weekend, Friday night to Sunday afternoon.
Tent camping: September–November and April–June
Cabin camping: December–March
Each July, the troop attends a week-long summer camp to enjoy extended outdoor adventures and activities.
Yes and no. The troop provides tents, pop-up canopies, camping stoves, food, and cooking supplies. For a full list of what scouts should bring, please see our Camping Packing List page.
Scouts should wear there uniform, bring their Scout handbook, and any materials needed for current activities or merit badge work.
Yes! Scouts are encouraged to wear the official BSA field uniform to troop meetings, camping trips, and special events. The uniform helps build pride, belonging, and respect for Scouting traditions. Key uniform items include:
Official Scout shirt
Nekerchief and slide
Scout pants
Belt
Badges and insignia (earned ranks, patrol, and merit badges)
New Scouts will receive guidance on which items to purchase and how to wear the uniform properly.
No prior Scouting experience is necessary! Parents are encouraged to volunteer as leaders, help with events, assist on outings, or support fundraising efforts. Your involvement helps strengthen the troop and enrich the Scouts’ experience.
The troop communicates via the GroupMe App, our website, and troop meetings. Scouts hold a monthly Patrol Leaders’ Council (PLC) meeting, and Parents hold a monthly Planning Meeting. We also maintain a Google Calendar of events so families can plan ahead.
