As a complement to its Cub Scout Pack 706, Our Lady of Mercy Parish (OLOM) applied for and received its national charter to organize Troop 706 from the Boy Scouts of America in July of 1996. Troop 706 held its first meeting in September 1996 with an initial member of 6 Webelos Scouts coming primarily from Pack 706. With the support of Msgr. John Enzler, OLOM contributed funds to the Troop to purchase equipment including tents, tarps, cook kits, lanterns, saws and axes. Over the past 26 years, the Troop has become one of the most active in the National Capital Area council and has a current membership of 33 Scouts and 14 registered adults. The Troop has its own 5' x 10' trailer for camping and is fully equipped with tents, cook stoves, and other essentials.Â
