Northern Tier 2023

In January 2023, the Troop will send a Crew from Toledo, OH to BSA's Northern Tier High Adventure Base in Ely, MN.

CREW EVENTS

Below is the group training event schedule that was designed to promote team building, skills growth, and allow crew members to demonstrate their progress made physical conditioning and gear training.

Gear Shopping

Personal Gear Required:

2 Winter Hats (preferably fleece)

2 pairs of synthetic long underwear (tops and bottoms; NO COTTON)

2 pairs liner gloves

2-3 pairs wool socks

Sleeping bag. If you have a cold weather sleeping bag, bring it. Otherwise, a summer or 3-season bag will be sufficient (we can outfit you with a cold weather bag)

Headlamp or flashlight and extra batteries (MUST HAVE – days are short in the winter)*

Toiletry articles (toothbrush, toothpaste)*

Cup, bowl and spoon- NOT Metal

Stuff sack or small duffel bag for all personal gear

Items for showering* (towel, soap, etc.) and clothes for the trip home

Sunglasses* or Ski Goggles

The following items are available in limited quantities. You may feel more comfortable in your own:

2 pairs wool or fleece pants (Hard to fit XX-L & XXX-L – recommend bringing your own)

2 sweaters* – preferably wool or polar fleece – NO COTTON (Hard to fit XX-L & XXX-L – recommend bringing your own)



CONDITIONING

Focus on your Cardio and Hiking with a Backpack (work your way up to 50# - we'll be using sleds to haul our gear at Northern Tier

Attend each of the campouts leading up to the Trek to acclimate to the colder tent camping and walking with your gear and boots on.


FOOD ON THE TRAIL

Our food will be provided by the Northern Tier staff. Please refer to the Participant Guide and Northern Tier site for questions.
