The first football coaches at Alexandria Senior High in 1969. (L to R) David Bates, Head Coach Louis Crenshaw, David Williamson and Glen Murphy.
On August 12, 1969, Fifty-Two young men assembled at Brame Junior High to begin practicing football. This was a unique practice, though, in that these young men, representing six different schools, on that day formed the first athletic squad in the history of Alexandria Senior High before the building was completed.
Though the opener was a lost to Winnsboro, the newly named Trojans found the winning combination on their second venture, and added two more victories over established teamsto their string. When the smoke cleared, the Purple & Gold Trojans had won three of seven contest. A better mark than any new school in Louisiana.
The initial success, added to the fact that only five seniors would depart via graduation, swelled the new campus with optimism for coming years. Athletics at Alexandria Senior High were born to win! Seniors (L to R) Kneeling; Ronnie Vidrine, Brooks George and James Cunning. Standing; Kit Martin and Rick Matthews.
