I'm a first-generation, Latinx, feminist. I grew up watching and learning how to cook my favorite Mexican dishes from my mom and aunt. I learned how to enjoy and dance to my favorite Tejano and Oldies music from my grandma and dad. I embrace my culture/family and give thanks to the indigenous land that has provided the foundation to pursue my masters. I love to travel and find the beauty in the world with my partner. My friends and students are my biggest motivators and inspiration to create a better community for future generations.
I'm a proud public school alumni coming from San Antonio Independent School District. I started my college experience in Fall 2010, entering the University of Texas at San Antonio with the intentions of pursuing a Business Management degree. I discovered a new pathway with Criminal Justice and was able to study abroad in Spain. I graduated with my B.S in Criminal Justice with a minor in Women Studies and Mexican-American Studies in 2015. Attaining a master degree had always been the plan so in Fall 2020, I finally made the jump and started my Higher Education Administration journey.
After college, I went towards the social service aspect in my career. While at Family Violence Prevention Services, as Program Specialist for Celebrating Families, I coordinated and facilitated evidence-based curriculum in educating and promoting best practices to strengthen family’s relationships to break the cycle of abuse, neglect, and chemical dependency.
I started my higher education pathway while being at Girls Inc. of San Antonio as their College Access and Workforce Success Coordinator. I was still creating curriculum and facilitating programming, but now I was advising and mentoring students on their pathway to college and the workforce. I found the joy in preparing students for their college and career journey.
I transitioned to now working for SAISD as a Postsecondary Navigator. Supporting students from my community and connecting to their stories and experiences has helped me find my "why". I'm still able to practice my facilitation and programming skills while being a Graduate Research Assistant at the Najim Center at UTSA. I continue to relate and listen to students needs by creating innovated and experiential learning experiences to prepare their transition to the workforce.
After completing my M.Ed, I hope to find a position that can connect my advising and mentoring interests and collaborate with my facilitation and programming skills.
