Eligibility: This contest is open to students of any public or private high school in grades 9-12. Each school may bring a maximum of 1 team, and each team will consist of at most 5 students.
Fees: None!
Size of teams: Each team will consist of 5 students. Partial teams will be allowed, but they will be at a disadvantage.
Teams should plan to arrive at Trinity between 9:30-10:00 AM so we can begin the competition on time. Lunch will be provided.
The Trinity School is located at 101 West 91st Street, New York, NY, 10024. If teams are taking public transportation, the nearest trains are the B, C, 1, 2, and 3 trains.
Team Round - [350 points] Teams will have 60 minutes to answer 10 questions. Questions are weighted.
Individual Round - [300 points] Each competitor will be presented 3 sets of 5 problems each. They will have 15 minutes to solve the first set, 20 minutes to solve the second set, and 25 minutes to solve the third set. Problems in the first set are worth 2 points each, problems in the second set are worth 4 points each, and problems in the third set are worth 6 points each. The problems will be a combination of algebra, geometry, combinatorics, and number theory.
Relay Round - [100 points] A team will receive 5 problems, one problem for each team member. Team members may not communicate. The first team member will solve their problem and pass their answer back to the second team member, who will use the number they received for to solve their own problem. The second team member will pass their answer back to the third team member, who will use the number they received in their own problem, and so on. The fifth team member will submit their answer and only the fifth answer will count. There will be 2 of these rounds and each team will have 15 minutes to complete each of these rounds. The first relay round is worth 40 points and the second relay round is worth 60 points.
Speed Round - [250 points] Teams will have 30 minutes to solve up to 16 problems. Teams will be given a set of two questions to work on. Once they complete a set, they can submit it to be graded and receive another set to work on. Team scores will be updated live and projected throughout the round. Questions are weighted.
