Hello, I'm Robert Sandler, and I'm a Cinephile:

    A person who is fond of motion pictures.

 "the film is mostly known only to dedicated cinephiles"

        A cinephile is someone who is passionate about movies and knows a lot about them. A cinephile should be an educated film consumer with the tool kit to distinguish average films from outstanding ones. 

I grew up behind the scenes before that was even an expression.

My Father was a motion picture sound & film editor, our family moved a lot, to where ever the work was.

I spent the best 20 years of my life (the 1980s and 1990s) in Southern California...

The San Fernando Valley and Hollywood and the Greater Los Angeles Area.

Basically where every pop culture TV show and Movie was made.

And I was a part of a great many of them.

I spent a lot of time in theaters. I spent a lot of time in front of a TV watching movies on VHS.

I eventually got a job at my local video store, and movie theater.

I did some time as a Projectionist.

I really miss those days.

And I belonged to soooo many film clubs.

Well, I moved back to Raleigh, NC...

And all the film clubs seem to be on college campuses or run by big theater chains. 

And they aren't social clubs either, you go with your fellow students or you go to a theater with your own friends.

I tend to go alone because I don't have friends here anymore,

but after the show, I hang around in the auditorium and talk to anyone who bothered to stick around for the credits.

And I love to talk about the film afterward.

(But I'd like it better if I actually got to know my fellow cinephiles, and if there is food and drink involved, even better.)

I've seen a lot of films and movies (there is a difference).

I've worked on a good many behind the scenes and in front of the camera.

I would like to share my experiences and stories and trivia with others.

And that's what this club is for...

To share the experience.

Either you can watch a film you know and love with others that have seen them or haven't.

Or you might see something that you missed out on for one reason or another growing up.

You may learn to appreciate films and how far they have come, once you see how they were "back in the day".

Whatever the case, I hope you'll join us.
