This year is the 30th anniversary of the publication of Voices of the Youth. The original anthology served as a small window to the lives of the Filipino and Filipino-American youth. It will be interesting to discover the changes, if any, the 30-year difference has brought not only to our Filipino youth but to all the keiki in Hawaii. In this new anthology, the winning entries from the Letter to My Parents Hawaii will be included, as well as the poetry and other literary forms submitted by the youth of Hawaii.
Submission deadline: Monday, August 31st, 2020.
Pinay Diaspora: Rediscovering/Discovering Filipino Cultural Values
Beginning thoughts….“As more and more Filipinos living outside the country want to know about themselves – who they are as individuals and as a Community; what their past is like or has been, and what the future holds, it seems appropriate to reflect on what identifies us as Filipinos or in some instances, how and why others identify us that way. You (we) have a right and obligation to tell your (our) own story of self-discovery that includes a large part of our roots. What better way to identify our self than by way of reflecting on our values, and these are expressed in our ways of perceiving, thinking, believing and behaving.”- Virgie Chattergy, Editor
