Welcome to my portfolio! I started my career as a high school agriscience teacher and now I'm designing online curriculum and training webinars in the private sector.
I believe in experiential learning, or learning through doing. It's my belief that this learning strategy can best prepare students of any age to learn new ideas. Through the Instructional Systems and Learning Technology masters program at FSU, I've been able to learn numerous teaching strategies and how to use the growing number of online educational tools that are becoming readily avaliable. My areas of expertise include online course development, video production, documentation, integrating tools with Learning Management Systems (LMS), collaborating with learners and subject matter experts, and presenting virtual and in-person workshops.
With the advancement we've seen over the past few years with online education, I believe we as instructional designers are just beginning to see just how impactful online education can truly be, for both formal and informal education.
This portfolio showcases various projects and courses I've been a part of through my time at FSU. You'll also see my executive summary detailing out more of these projects as well as my resume and past experience.
My goal, upon completing this program, is to continue to implement the teaching strategies I've learned into my current job as a learning content developer. Since enrolling, I've been able to design more engaging and impactful online educational opportunities for our learners. This also includes strategies for effectively managing an online Learning Management System (LMS). I'd also like to implement these skills into my part time passion project, informing consumers where their food comes from through podcasting and YouTube.
With background focused on experiential learning, I've learned other important teaching strategies. These include developing student motivation, game-based learning, and prior knowledge activation.
The web has forever transformed education. Online learning communities, free curriculum, and the convenience of learning on our smart phones will continue to drive education online.
With new technology like Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) seeing more widespread use, I've learned how to incorporate these tools into various learning scenarios.
Through numerous projects, assignments, and an internship, I've improved my collaboration skills. Both in person and virtual, I effectively communicate with instructional developers, students, and stakeholders.
