The rising sign, or the sign on the horizon at birth, has a vital relevance to consciousness. The esoteric point of view on development precisely considers that horizon as a promise, as a chance on Earth while we stay on it during the motion around the Sun and itself.
For a better understanding of the relevance, this article includes some terms and concepts that are just one of the many several ways to assign names to the experience, which is intrinsically a single one. The references to “substances”, “tones” and “forms” are a way to transmit the astrological objetification of some energetic processes.
The Sun has a developmental horizon, the rising sign, which is incorporated when perception and receptiveness are expanded reflexively. The incorporation is an esoteric-mental development of consciousness at the present time, a process that opens the doors to a fluent communication between the densest and subtlest energies.
The vital substance then flows through matter. The densest expressions can be found in the physical and astral experiences. The subtlest ones, in other matter tones: the mental one (reflexive), the magnetic and the ātman (will). During the process, the circulation in the etheric body becomes more fluent, the psychic energy impregnates dense matter, and it begins a progressive expresion of different tones of each zodiacal sign.
The Sun sign indicates the vitalizing characteristics for the physical body, under the form of heat. Whereas the rising sign indicates the psychic characteristics for the vitalization. The Sun’s heat allows lunar karma to be manifested, whereas “the psychic fire” tends to deplete the manifestation in development. In esoteric terms, the development firstly takes place as an elemental Alchemy. Later, transmutations go on, and the vital energy is oriented towards more subtle tones which, at the same time, attract it and thus finally deplete lunar karma.
Incorporating the rising sign’s energy invokes the energies in subtle equivalence to the sign it is emplaced on the chart. The equivalence can be read in the esoteric charts: the mental, magnetic and ātman ones. They count on a rising sign too, which indicates a specific etheric experience to incorporate during each expansion of consciousness. In concrete terms, the vital substance flows from the equivalent subtlest tones, and is processed in the etheric centers for corporal vitalization.
Each expansion of consciousness is a consolidation and, at the same time, a development. The following paragraphs include many signifiers to read on a birth chart through the esoteric lens.
The astral rising sign consolidates reflexiveness and develops psychic magnetism. For consolidating reflexiveness, the astral energy must be transmutted, by harmonizing the emotional poles of the experience. Those poles are indicated by elemental relations: Fire is opposed to Water, and Earth to Air. For developing psychic magnetism, the vital energy is focused on all of the rulers of the solar sign (astral and psychic ones). For example, if Pisces rises, the focus is on Neptune (astral ruler), Pluto (mental and magnetic ruler), and Venus (ātman ruler).
The mental rising sign consolidates the synthesis of zodiacal opposites, for example the Sun in Taurus with Scorpio, and vice-versa. And it develops human will as a psychic trait.
The rising sign of the magnetic chart consolidates sound consciousness. With it, zodiacal and planetary polarities become a single one, while the perception of fusions is developed.
Finally, the ātman chart consolidates will, so there’s a human consciousness. Making use of free will sets in motion all the energies’ spectrum, in all tones of matter.
Each development doesn’t end with the following ones but is integrated with the upcoming ones: the reflexive thought, magnetism and will are traits of a Mind that doesn’t cease to develop. That’s why it is possible to read esoteric charts as permanent signifiers of development, whether be as a whole, whether be in the ways they can be combined (mutual aspects).
The rising sign of the astral chart develops the expression of birth karma. The expression is depleted when Saturn completes its first cycle, around the 28-29 years-old. During the time interval, the esoteric charts are progressively added to the reading of the astral chart.
Between 0 to 7 years-old, the astral rising sign is incorporated. On any chart, Sagittarius provides the impulse for alchemical transmutation, whereas Cancer provides the shape inside of which opposite elements are integrated. A more accurate reading focuses on Jupiter and Neptune (the astral and mental rulers of the mentioned signs, respectively).
Between 7 to 14 years-old, the rising sign of the mental chart is incorporated. Capricorn provides the developmental impulse, and Gemini gathers zodiacal opposite signs in a harmonic combination. The energy is focused on Saturn and Venus.
Between 14 to 21 years-old, the rising sign of the magnetic chart is incorporated. Aquarius provides the impulse, and Taurus perceives the vibration of each component. The ruling planets of development are Uranus and Vulcan.
From 21 to 28-29 years-old, the rising sign of the ātman chart is incorporated. The development is synchronized with the accomplishment of karma, and is based on the consolidation of human will. With it, there’s transcendence: the zodiacal circle incorporates itself, and now there’s no specific signs to impulse or close the process.
In this online document you’ll find three tables. The first one includes the equivalent signs on the esoteric charts (equivalent to the rising sign or any other one). The second table includes the signs’ rulers, in each tone. Knowing the rising signs on each chart, and the planets focusing those energies, it can be seen the annual developmental scheme for each rising sign. A third table indicates the chart to be considered as seasons pass by during the year.
