Privacy Policy for Trekzio
Last updated: July 20, 2026
INNOVASIV TECHNOLOGIES PVT. LTD. operates the Trekzio mobile application. This page informs users of our policies regarding the collection, use, and disclosure of personal information.
Information We Collect
Email Address — collected when you create an account, used for authentication via Firebase.
Location Data (GPS + Network) — used to track your live position during an active trip, including when the app is running in the background (phone locked or app closed). Location is used to (a) show your position on the map, (b) detect when you arrive at your destination (within 15 metres), (c) detect if you have not moved for 1 hour, (d) include your current coordinates and address in emergency SMS messages to your selected contacts. Coordinates are sent to Google Maps Platform APIs (Maps SDK, Places Autocomplete, Directions API, Geocoding API) to render the map, autocomplete destination searches, calculate routes and ETAs, and resolve coordinates to an address. Coordinates are also sent to OpenStreetMap Nominatim when you drag the pin to confirm a destination, and when you search a new destination from the live trip screen. Your last known coordinates and current trip state are saved locally on your device. Location is never sold or shared with advertisers, and is never uploaded to Trekzio's own servers — because Trekzio does not run any server.
Contacts (Phonebook) — with your permission, the app reads your device contacts so that you can pick emergency contacts. The name, phone number, label (Home/Work/Other/custom), and preferred SMS language you assign to each selected contact are stored locally on your device only. This data is never transmitted to our servers.
Battery Level — the app reads your device's battery percentage to send a low-battery alert SMS to your emergency contacts when the battery falls below the threshold you set. The battery level is not stored or transmitted to our servers.
SMS Sending — when a trip event occurs (trip started, arrived, stopped, low battery, no movement for 1 hour, internet lost or restored, phone rebooted mid-trip, or manual SOS button pressed), the app uses your device's SIM to send an SMS to the emergency contacts you selected. The SMS content includes your name (from your profile), your current place name and coordinates, your destination, ETA, a Google Maps link, your travel mode, your battery percentage (for low-battery alerts), and any optional trip note you added. The SMS is sent directly by your phone through your mobile carrier — Trekzio does not run a server that sees or stores the SMS content. Standard SMS charges from your carrier apply.
Profile Data (Name, Phone, Photo) — the display name, phone number, and profile photo you add in the app are stored locally on your device only. Your name is included in the SMS body so recipients know who sent the alert.
On-Device Translation — if any of your emergency contacts are set to receive SMS in Tamil or Hindi, your name and the current place name are translated using Google ML Kit Translation, which runs entirely on your device. The translation itself never leaves your phone. The only network activity is a one-time download of a generic language model file from Google, which contains no personal data.
Trip History — the destination and outcome (Arrived / Stopped) of each completed trip, along with which SMS types fired during that trip, are stored locally on your device only. This is shown in the History screen. You can auto-delete history older than 30 days or wipe all history at any time from the Privacy & Security screen.
Trip Note — an optional short text you enter when starting a trip. Stored locally on your device and included in the trip-start SMS to your emergency contacts.
Travel Mode — the mode you pick when starting a trip (walk / cycle / bike / car / custom). Stored locally on your device, included in the trip-start SMS, and passed to Google Directions API to compute an accurate route and ETA for that mode.
Saved Places & Scheduled Trips — you can save frequently used destinations (labeled Home, Work, or a custom name) for quick selection, and optionally schedule a trip to start automatically at a future date and time. Both are stored locally on your device only and are never transmitted to our servers.
Advertising Identifier — Google AdMob automatically collects your device's advertising identifier to serve banner ads (shown on the Emergency Contacts and Trip History screens) and interstitial (full-screen) ads (shown when the app opens, once when a trip starts, and occasionally when returning to the Home tab). A one-time interstitial ad may appear immediately after a trip begins. Aside from that single moment, interstitial ads (app-open and Home-tab-return) are never shown while a trip is already active. AdMob's use of this identifier is governed by Google's own privacy policy.
How We Use Your Information
To track your live location during a trip and detect arrival at your destination
To send automatic SMS alerts to your selected emergency contacts on key trip events
To send an SMS when you press the SOS button
To authenticate your account securely via Firebase
To render the map, autocomplete destination search, and calculate routes and ETAs
To translate names and place names into Tamil or Hindi, entirely on your device, for SMS recipients who prefer those languages
To display banner and interstitial advertisements via Google AdMob
Third Party Services
We use the following third-party services which have their own privacy policies:
Firebase Authentication (Google) — email/password login and email verification
Google Maps Platform (Google) — Maps SDK for Android, Places API (destination autocomplete), Directions API (route and ETA), Geocoding API (address lookup)
Google ML Kit Translation (Google) — on-device translation of names and place names into Tamil / Hindi; only a generic language model file is downloaded from Google, no personal data is sent
OpenStreetMap Nominatim (OpenStreetMap Foundation) — reverse geocoding coordinates to a human-readable address when you drag the pin to confirm a destination, and forward search when changing your destination mid-trip
Google AdMob (Google) — serves banner ads on the Emergency Contacts and Trip History screens, and interstitial ads on app open, trip start, and occasional return to the Home tab; collects your device's advertising identifier
Your mobile carrier — delivers the SMS messages sent by the app. Standard SMS charges apply.
Data Security
Trip history, saved places, emergency contacts, and profile data are stored locally on your device only. Email authentication is handled securely by Firebase (Google's cloud). Location coordinates leave your device only when needed for a specific API call (map render, route lookup, address lookup) and are not retained by Trekzio. Name/place translation happens entirely on-device and is never transmitted anywhere. We do not run any backend server. We do not sell your personal data to any third party.
Children's Privacy
Trekzio does not knowingly collect information from children under 13.

We may update this policy. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date.
