1) I chose this image because Tower of London is a monument that signifies the Norman power and has been a setting for key historical events, and was recognized for its cultural value. Since it is a monument of culture and history, tourists would definitely be interested to visit.
2) I chose this image because Antarctica is one of the seven continents of the world and we actually learnt that it is the Southernmost landmass located entirely south of the Antarctic circle.
3)I chose this image because Crater Lake is the deepest lake in the United States and it shows how deep blue and clear the water is . Although it looks extremely huge, lakes actually are smaller than seas and mostly/fully surrounded by land.
4)I chose this image of the window seat because it represents Air Transport and this form of transport is the main mode of transportation for tourism.
5)The reason why I chose this image of Zurich and Alps on the horizon is because of the close proximity they have. Zurich is a gateway city which serves as a gateway to the tourist attraction, Alps.
Straits Times Online Article Review
The article recommends interesting and unique activities to do in Durango, South Colorado. Since Colorado is known for its beautiful alpine scenery, hot springs and variety of outdoor pursuits, people would normally recommend popular spots such as Colorado Springs or the Rocky National Park. However, there’s this hidden gem located in South-West Colorado that not many people know of.
Firstly, the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad Train is an example of geography of transport as it is a rail transportation. The time travel machine, Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad is a steam powered, coal-fired train that has been running since the 1880s. The route is a long one which includes a part of the San Juan Skyway, a series of roads that has been rated as one of the scenic drives in the United States. The rail transportation can also be considered as a touristic destination itself because the train roars and whistles thrillingly as it winds along clifftops, rivers and canyons, offering breath-taking and, from the few open-air cars, vertiginous views of the landscape.
Secondly, the Durango Hot Springs Resort & Spa is a man-made and purpose built attraction to attract tourists (appeal of destination’s attractiveness). People who are seeking for relaxation, medicinal and therapeutic benefits would be interested in such geothermally-heated hot springs offered by the destination. Although the pools are man-made, but the water is naturally geothermally heated. This is also a civilized way for tourists who want to enjoy the mineral-rich geothermally springs which is even comfortably to soak in during the winter season in an enclosed area,
Lastly, Durango is also of a striking distance of a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Mesa Verde National Park which is considered a famous cultural and natural site in Geographical features. Since Mesa Verde National Park is a well-preserved historic settlement landscape of the Ancestral Puebloan Culture and tourists are allowed to hike past the ruins of the cliff dwellings and other remarkable Anasazi, Durango might appeal to tourists as a destination even more due to its richness of culture and heritage.
